I spent a lot of time racing through Green Hill Zone and collecting rings, so hearing that there would be a Magic: The Gathering and Sonic The Hedgehog crossover really hit home for me. This isn't simply another limited-edition collection; it feels like a real party for both franchises. Wizards of the Coast and SEGA have worked together to bring the fast hedgehog and his buddies into the world of Magic with three different Secret Lair drops. I think this is exactly the kind of thoughtful, fan-focused partnership we've been waiting for.
Magic: The Gathering has been doing great with its crossovers, from the huge Final Fantasy set to amusing ones like SpongeBob and Deadpool. The Sonic Secret Lair, on the other hand, seems distinct. It's not enough to just put a new coat of paint on old cards. You need to really include Sonic's essence into the game by making new cards and inventive new versions of classic Magic cards. The Sonic Secret Lair stands out because it is both original and pays tribute to other works.
Three special drops bring Sonic's world to your deck. The Secret Lair Superdrop Has Something for All Sonic Fans
There are three different releases in the "Sonic Superdrop," each with its own set of cards and flavor. They will all be available for purchase on MagicSecretLair.com starting at 9 AM PT on July 14. However, you should act quickly because there are only a limited number of them. These Secret Lair drops can disappear very quickly, and since Sonic is such a popular franchise, I expect these to go even faster.
The three drops are Secret Lair x Sonic: Friends & Foes, Secret Lair x Sonic: Chasing Adventure, and Secret Lair x Sonic: Turbo Gear. There are seven cards in each drop, so they make a big addition to any collection. I like this method since it covers many parts of the Sonic universe, letting players choose how they want to bring their beloved hedgehog to the table.
Friends & Foes Brings New Sonic Characters to Magic

This Drop Has Original Art of Famous Heroes and Villains
The Secret Lair x Sonic: Friends & Foes drop is the best part of this cooperation for me. It adds seven new Magic card designs with famous Sonic characters on them. We are getting cards for Sonic, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Dr. Eggman. I'm also looking forward to seeing the "Super State" card in play.
The original art on these cards is what makes this set so amazing. Some of the art is from fan bearer Sonicmicrophone artists who are doing their first work for Magic: The Gathering. This focus on artistic detail and pulling in expertise right from the Sonic universe demonstrates a lot of respect for the original material. Wizards of the Coast clearly wanted these characters to feel real in both worlds. It's great news for players who want to include these new cards to their competitive decks that they are legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage formats.
Chasing Adventure and Turbo Gear give new life to old Magic cards.

Famous Sonic Things and Events Get a New Spin
The other two drops, Secret Lair x Sonic: Turbo Gear and Secret Lair x Sonic: Chasing Adventure, are just as exciting but in a different way. With a unique Sonic touch, these sets take existing Magic cards and turn them into famous items and events from the game series.
For instance, Turbo Gear changes the skins of powerful artifacts into gear from Sonic's universe. The Reaver Cleaver is now called "Knuckles's Gloves," Swiftfoot Boots are now called "Air Shoes," Myr Battlesphere is now called "Egg Hammer," Hammer of Nazahn is now called "Piko Piko Hammer," Lightning Greaves are now called "Power Sneakers," and Weatherlight is now called "Tornado, Sonic's Biplane." An "Egg Pawn" is even a Myr token that has been changed. It's great that you can give a Knuckles card "Knuckles's Gloves" to make a strong combo. This illustrates how effectively these sets work together.
Chasing Adventure offers new Sonic-themed art on old Magic cards that have been reprinted. This set has some of the most important cards, like Sol Ring, Generous Gift, Open the Armory, Fabricate, Deadly Dispute, and Unexpected Windfall. It also comes with a Treasure token that looks like a golden ring. The Sol Ring, which has a picture of Sonic speeding through a Rainbow Ring, is really nice. It's a great way to put characters that fans love, like Shadow, Tails, and Amy, on cards that are already popular in Magic decks.
