It seems like legendary actor Harrison Ford is always busy. Whether he is flying planes, acting in big movies, or supporting important causes, he certainly keeps himself in the news. Recently, Ford has been in the spotlight for a couple of interesting reasons: he is being honored for his charity work, and one of his older thriller movies might be getting a new life on TV. It just shows how enduring his presence in Hollywood really is.

On June 3, Harrison Ford and rock legend Gene Simmons were set to be honored by Operation Smile. This global group provides much needed surgical and healthcare to children. Ford and Simmons have both supported this organization for a long time. They were celebrated alongside the Rodosky family, who also have a long history with the non-profit. Ford will receive the Dr. Randy Sherman Visionary Award, named for the late founder of the Southern California chapter. Simmons gets the Universal Smile Award. The Rodosky family will be honored with the Philanthropic Leadership Award. It is always good to see big names like Ford using their platform for good causes.

Operation Smile started in 1982. Dr. Bill Magee and Kathy Magee founded it. The group focuses on cleft surgery and care. In 1991, the organization began reaching out more in Latin America. They trained local health workers and made health systems stronger. They believe that safe surgery is a human right, not just a privilege. The Los Angeles Smile Fiesta event will highlight Operation Smile’s work in twelve countries across Latin America. These include Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, and Mexico. It is a really impactful organization doing great work around the world.

An Unexpected Thriller Starring Harrison Ford Is Getting A TV Show Version

Robert Zemeckis's "What Lies Beneath" Is Being Reimagined For The Small Screen

Fans of Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer’s supernatural thriller What Lies Beneath might be surprised to hear this. This classic movie, directed by Robert Zemeckis, might be turned into a TV show. Producer Mark Johnson, known for movies like the Chronicles of Narnia trilogy and Rain Man, spoke about this. Over the years, we have seen many popular movies turned into series like Mr and Mrs Smith and Fatal Attraction. These can be great or not so great depending on how close they stick to the original story.

Mark Johnson shared his plans for turning What Lies Beneath into a horror series. He said, "We’re very excited about the idea of maybe doing a television show — I’m not sure I should say this but I’m going to — our movie What Lies Beneath, that could lend itself to a very good, perhaps limited, perhaps not, TV show." Turning the movie into a longer series makes a lot of sense. People often love watching horror at home. Plus, with its exciting story, supernatural scares, and intense thriller vibe, it would fit well on the small screen. It could keep viewers glued to their seats.

The movie What Lies Beneath, written by Clark Gregg, came out in 2000. It is about Dr. Norman Spencer (Ford) who has not been faithful to his wife Claire (Pfeiffer). Claire does not know the truth. Their life and marriage seem perfect. But things take a spooky turn when Claire tells Norman she hears strange voices and sees a young woman in their home. He thinks she is imagining things. As Claire gets closer to the truth, it becomes clear this ghost will not go away. It has come back for the couple.

The movie got mixed reviews but made a lot of money. It earned $291.4 million worldwide on a budget of $100 million. Pfeiffer received a lot of praise for her acting. Ford is remembered for his villainous turn. The movie had a great cast, including Diana Scarwid, Joe Morton, and James Remar. These actors all gave strong performances. The movie has a 48% Rotten Tomatoes rating, but I think it deserves a better one. If this series actually happens, fans will be in for a supernatural ride.

Mark Johnson has been involved in many big hits for AMC over the last two decades. That does not seem to be changing, as he recently renewed his deal with AMC Studios. One of his biggest jobs right now is overseeing the Anne Rice universe. This includes shows like Interview With the Vampire. Even though he is turning 80 this year, Johnson plans to keep making shows he enjoys. He explained his reasons saying, "Why wouldn’t I be at AMC? They truly celebrate the story. You look at the success they’ve had, it is still very much the leader and the benchmark: good writing, good characters and good television." This commitment to quality is always a good sign for future projects.

John Krasinski's New Movie Makes Us Think About Harrison Ford's Iconic Roles

Is The New Film "Fountain of Youth" Too Similar To Indiana Jones And Other Ford Characters?

John Krasinski's new movie Fountain of Youth is drawing some interesting comparisons. This is actually the second time Krasinski has tried to play a character originally done by Harrison Ford. After the first trailer for Fountain of Youth came out, it was clear the film took inspiration from Indiana Jones. This is not necessarily a problem, since Indiana Jones does not own the whole adventure movie genre. I even want to see more adventure movies like it. However, early reviews for Fountain of Youth are not looking great. One reviewer gave it a 5 out of 10.

Even with a great cast and Guy Ritchie directing, Fountain of Youth has not connected with critics or audiences. The movie, which came out on Apple TV+ on May 23, 2025, aims to be a globe-trotting adventure but just does not quite hit the mark. It might have some fun parts, but I felt pretty disappointed by the end of it. More importantly, Fountain of Youth shows that Krasinski should not have tried to fill the shoes of Indiana Jones, one of Ford's most famous characters.

In the new Apple TV+ film, Krasinski plays Luke Purdue. He is an archeologist and explorer hired by a rich businessman to find the mythical Fountain of Youth. To do this, he brings along his sister Charlotte, who is very reluctant. While Charlotte has left the explorer's life behind, Luke is driven to find hidden treasure and uncover the world's secrets. The movie looks at how some treasures are not meant to be found. It also shows how Luke’s quests can lead to bad outcomes and bad forces being set free. This idea is also found in the Indiana Jones movies.

Based on the movie's plot, it is clear Fountain of Youth was heavily inspired by the Indiana Jones films. Ford’s famous character traveled the world looking for old items and hidden treasure. Krasinski’s character in Fountain of Youth is very similar to Indiana Jones. He is clearly reckless and acts on impulse. This often puts him in dangerous situations. Since Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in 2023 was Ford's last time playing the character, there is now a chance for a new actor to become the next big adventure star. But since Fountain of Youth is not very good, Krasinski probably will not be that person.

This is not the first time Krasinski has stepped into a role first played by Ford. Since 2018, Krasinski has played Jack Ryan. This popular character was originally played by Ford in the movies Patriot Games in 1992 and Clear and Present Danger in 1994. Of course, Krasinski is not playing Indiana Jones exactly in Fountain of Youth. But the inspiration is very clear. Luckily, Krasinski’s Jack Ryan show has been much better received than his new adventure movie. He will even play the character in a coming movie.

Why John Krasinski Might Not Be The Right Choice For Future Indiana Jones Projects

Comparing His Performance In "Fountain of Youth" To Harrison Ford's Iconic Portrayals

While Krasinski has found success as Jack Ryan for several years, Fountain of Youth shows that he should not be Ford's replacement for a possible Indiana Jones reboot. An Indiana Jones reboot has not been confirmed. But it could happen since Dial of Destiny showed Ford’s version of the character on his last adventure. If the famous adventure series ever gets rebooted, it would be very hard to pick someone to replace Ford.

This is not to say that Krasinski is bad in Fountain of Youth. As seen in the Jack Ryan series and movies like A Quiet Place, Krasinski is a good leading man. However, he does not have the same kind of charm that Ford has. Luke Purdue in Fountain of Youth just is not as likable as Indiana Jones. This proves that Krasinski would not be the right choice to replace Ford. It is a tough comparison to make, because Ford truly made the role his own. It will take a very special actor to step into those shoes next.
