It always feels good to come across a new sci-fi show that instantly grabs your attention. Viewers are really connecting with Netflix's scary new alien invasion story, The Eternaut. This six-episode series comes from Argentina. It is easily one of the biggest surprises of the year. It has a great score on Rotten Tomatoes and many genre fans are jumping on board.

This show is full of powerful pictures. The Spanish-speaking cast gives amazing performances. The visual effects are also top-notch. Director Bruno Stagnaro's The Eternaut has a humble backstory. It finally made it to the screen after fifty years of failed attempts to adapt it. There was even a cartoon series that never happened. It is quite a journey for a show to finally make it to us.

The Eternaut first came out in 1957. It was a sci-fi comic series for Hora Cero in Buenos Aires. Héctor Germán Oesterheld wrote it and Francisco Solano López drew the detailed pictures. When you look at some of the original comic strips and their hidden political messages it is hard to believe that Robert Kirkman did not know about this international comic at some point before creating his The Walking Dead comic series. But maybe it is just a coincidence.

Looking Ahead to Netflix's Big Shows Coming in 2025 and What We Can Expect From Them

From Sci-Fi Thrillers to Romantic Dramas, Netflix Has Plenty of New Stories Lined Up

The story for The Eternaut is pretty simple as these kinds of sci-fi mystery shows go. People in Buenos Aires are having a normal evening when a sudden, horrible snowfall covers the city. Millions die without warning. We follow a man named Juan Salvo (Ricardo Darin) and other groups of people who survived. They put on makeshift protective suits and go outside. They walk the empty streets filled with dead bodies. They then find another threat that is much bigger than toxic snow. Carla Peterson, César Troncoso, and Andrea Pietra also star with Darin. Their efforts really bring the show to life.

The cinematography by Gastón Girod is truly beautiful. A red Santa Claus balloon floats over piles of old cars. Falling meteors make a strange light in church windows. A single masked person walks through empty snow-covered streets. Big alien cockroaches wrap victims in web-like threads. Together these images make a striking visual picture. It helps tell this sad story. It also honors the original comic strip by copying its dramatic panel style. Yes we have seen this type of post-apocalyptic mystery show before. Shows like The Walking Dead, The Last Of Us, and others come to mind. But it is important to remember that The Eternaut was written and drawn almost 70 years ago. It was one of the first of its kind. It was a template for many stories that came after it. Those 1950s newspaper comic strips and later graphic novel collections are almost a national treasure in Argentina.

It starts a bit slow, but it picks up fast once we meet the main characters. So be patient with it. Viewers will be happy they waited. We will keep some of the big twists a surprise for you to find out when the haunting visuals and strong performances kick in. I think this one will be a hit. It offers something different and intriguing for viewers.

Exciting Casting Decisions and Anticipated Comebacks Are On The Horizon For Fans

Netflix's new TV shows and movies for May are full of romance. Fans of Judy Blume will be happy to know that an adaptation of her book Forever is coming early in the month. Regina King directed the first episode which is pretty cool. Another sweet show is the drama The Royals. This tells an unlikely love story between a charming prince figure and a strong, modern woman. If you do not know Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar now you will after watching this lively romance.

One of the most awaited series of the month is more about the end of romance. In the star-filled comedy The Four Seasons, one couple’s divorce shakes up the relationships among a group of old friends. Tina Fey, Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, and Will Forte are just some of the actors in the series. This one sounds like it will be full of laughs and possibly some tears. For something new that might get a lot of attention, the new series Sirens, from the creator of Maid, follows a woman trying to figure out what is going on with her younger sister's strange obsession with her rich boss. Meghann Fahy stars as the concerned sister. Milly Alcock plays her sister. Julianne Moore is the billionaire boss. Kevin Bacon and Glenn Howerton also appear. It sounds like a dark and intriguing watch.

On the movie side, the biggest addition to the streamer in May is the Twilight saga. If you have never watched the films based on Stephenie Meyer’s vampire fantasy series now is your chance. I told you Netflix’s May slate has plenty of romance right? It is a blast from the past for many of us who grew up with those movies. It is also a chance for new fans to see what all the fuss was about. I am curious to see how many people will rewatch these. I am sure a lot of people will dive back in for the nostalgia.

From Squid Game's Last Chapter to Real-Life Stories, There's Something For Everyone

The third and final season of the dystopian survival series Squid Game, one of Netflix’s most watched shows, is coming in June. This South Korean thriller picks up after last season’s shocking ending. Gi-hun (Player 456) is at the center of the new game. The new season will be available on June 27. I know many people will be waiting to see how this story finally wraps up. It is rare for a show to gain such global popularity so quickly.

Also on June’s list is the return of FUBAR (June 12), the action series starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbaro. They play a father and daughter who both work for the CIA. Carrie-Anne Moss joins the cast this season as a former East German spy. I am always interested to see Arnold in action roles. This show sounds like it will be a fun ride for those who like spy thrillers with a touch of family drama.

On the documentary side, Netflix will stream Titan: The OceanGate Disaster (June 11). This comes after its premiere at the Tribeca Festival. The movie uses first-hand accounts from former OceanGate employees. It creates a picture of CEO Stockton Rush and the history that led to the submersible’s failure in 2023. This is a topic that many people are interested in and I am sure it will be a compelling watch.

The platform will also release three new parts of its series Trainwreck. This series looks at major news events that went wrong. This month’s stories cover the deaths at 2021’s Astroworld music festival (The Astroworld Tragedy, June 10). It also covers the rise and fall of former Toronto mayor Rob Ford (Mayor of Mayhem, June 17). And it includes the ill-fated "poop cruise" (Poop Cruise, June 24). These documentaries always offer a fresh look at real-life events. They are often very thought-provoking.

What Else Is On The Horizon For Netflix And What Shows Might Be Missing From The Lineup?

A Look At Some Expected Titles And Surprising Omissions For The Rest Of 2025

As we hit the middle of the year, Netflix gave an update on its movie and series plans for the rest of 2025. We just got release windows for many shows for the rest of the summer and Fall 2025. This list is a small taste of what is coming. It mainly focuses on English titles from the US. It is important to remember that these dates can change.

There are some notable shows missing from this list. From the UK lineup, The Undertow, Man vs. Baby, and Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials are not there. This might mean they are pushed back to a later year. Fans of One Piece will be sad to hear that season 2 is still not on the list for this year. Also, familiar shows like Virgin River, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and The Lincoln Lawyer are missing. These shows have just finished filming so their return later might not be a huge surprise.

For the first time with the movie list, no major titles have been removed halfway through the year. This means everything announced for 2025 back in January should still be coming out this year. On the documentary side, two new titles are on the list. These include 1975, expected to be a feature film about the band from director Morgan Neville. There is also another crime feature doc from Skye Borgman called Unknown Number: The Highschool Catfish. These new additions keep the lineup exciting. I am always looking forward to new true crime content.

It is always a balancing act for Netflix to keep a fresh and exciting lineup. They are constantly adding and removing content. The variety of shows and movies coming in 2025 shows they are trying to offer something for everyone. Whether you like sci-fi, romance, comedy, or real-life documentaries, it seems like there will be plenty to watch. I am curious to see which of these new titles become the next big hit. It is always a good time to be a Netflix subscriber with so much content on the way.
