Summer is officially here, Islanders. How do I know? Because we get to watch Love Island Usa and Season 7’s new cast of attractive singles for the foreseeable future. The show is back and ready to welcome a whole new group of people looking for love in the villa. This is great news for fans who enjoy the show's romance and drama. What makes this season even more exciting is that it follows a truly special moment for two past Islanders.

Hannah Wright and Marco Donatelli, who won Love Island USA season 5, are now engaged! They proposed on a beach outside Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa in Punta Cana. This is a huge deal. It makes them the first couple from Love Island USA to reach this relationship milestone. This is something to celebrate because reality TV relationships do not always last.

Hannah told PEOPLE she was "shocked I had no idea and I was convinced that we were solely there for a vacation trip." She said she cried the whole time. She felt the setup was beautiful and like a dream. Marco started planning his surprise proposal nine months before the event. He finished the details in December 2024. He admitted it was "so nerve-wracking hiding this from Hannah for so long."

A Surprise Proposal For Love Island USA Winners Hannah And Marco

The Emotional Details Behind The Dominican Republic Beach Engagement

Marco led Hannah hand-in-hand to a lovely spot in front of the sparkling ocean. Hannah originally thought they were going to a romantic dinner. She was stunned to see many white roses and candles waiting for her on the sand. Marco spoke about their journey together in an emotional video of the proposal. He said, "Here we are, the Dominican Republic. This is about us but most importantly it's about you and everything you have done to change my life over the past two years. You are my pride, my joy, and my everything."

He continued to pour his heart out, saying, "I just can't go on any longer, you know, without making you mine forever. And when I mean forever, I mean absolutely forever. And it's about you and everything that you have done to improve my life — from mornings to nights to everything in between we absolutely have grown stronger together. And that’s the No.1 most important thing in a relationship." Marco also shared that their "guardian angels" would be "happy up in heaven" seeing them now. Then he got down on one knee and asked Hannah to marry him. Hannah loved the ring. She said it was "more beautiful than I could ever expect."

She noticed the diamond was connected to her promise ring which Marco gave her for their first anniversary a year ago. Then he told her to look into the ring. Inside the band was an engraving from something her dad told Marco before he passed away two months ago. This made her very emotional and she cried even more. The engraving reads "protect my baby – RW." This sweet detail made the moment even more special. Marco said the ring design was "a long process." He started with the cut of diamond Hannah wanted which was a solitaire cut. KAY Jewelers helped him make it real. They even offered an engraving for him. He did not even know you could engrave a ring.

When it came to setting the diamond, Marco asked for 10 carat white gold to make sure the diamond was secure. But they went above and beyond. They made the setting platinum. He used the exact promise ring he gave her last August in Miami for their anniversary. The jeweler at KAY took out the middle diamond and put in the setting for the new stone. Marco said when he first saw the ring he was completely blown away. He had never seen a ring that pretty in his life and it went beyond his expectations. This truly sounds like a dream proposal.

From Bombshell Entrance To Supporting Each Other Through Life's Challenges

Hannah and Marco quickly became fan favorites on the fifth season of Love Island USA in Fiji. Hannah entered the show in episode 2 as a "bombshell." She chose Marco to "couple up" with because she was "super" physically attracted to him and "loved his personality." She simply states "The rest is history." Marco also remembered the moment well. He shared, "From the moment I laid my eyes on her when she came out of the hideaway in that electric blue swimsuit as the first bombshell that walked in the villa, I knew that that was gonna be my person."

He continued, "I didn’t know quite how, where, or when, but when I laid eyes on her, I just felt a type of relaxation like 'that could be my wife'. Now getting her was a whole different obstacle, but when I first laid my eyes on her, it was love at first sight." The couple began dating on the show. On their last date toward the end of the season, Marco asked Hannah to be his girlfriend. Hannah said what truly showed her Marco was the one was in March. Her dad passed away suddenly. She believes Marco was sent into her life to help her through losing a family member.

His mother passed away in 2021. Hannah said she does not know how she would have handled that pain without him. She is very grateful to have him. She knew then that she wanted him by her side for whatever life brings them, the good and the bad. Marco agreed that they have supported each other through life's ups and downs. He knew Hannah was his forever when she helped him with his childhood trauma. She helped him understand who he is and that he can be confident. It became clear in January when they started couples therapy. He got to look into who he is. She helped him heal and taught him what it is like to love and be loved. That is when he truly knew.
