The world of Dexter is expanding again. We're getting a new chapter called Dexter: Resurrection. This sequel will bring back more than simply the main character. It's also bringing back some familiar faces that many people assumed would never appear again. The cast is expanding to include both new and familiar characters. Resurrection appears to be jam-packed with interesting characters, from newcomers Peter Dinklage and Uma Thurman to returning cast members David Zayas and James Remar. As the July 11 release date approaches, we're learning more about how many classic characters will return.
We already know that Dexter, played by Michael C. Hall, is returning. David Zayas plays Batista, and James Remar plays Harry Morgan. Harrison Morgan, played by Jack Alcott, also returns from Dexter: New Blood. But here's the main story that has everyone buzzing. James Doakes, played by Erik King, will appear in Dexter: Resurrection. This should create a very stressful situation for Dexter and his former opponent. Doakes' comeback in Resurrection will be impressive on its own. However, it's possible that another key figure from the original Dexter will appear in the new series.
James Doakes returns to haunt Dexter Morgan's mind in the new series. This fan favorite character will be returning as a hallucination for our serial killer.
When Clyde Phillips, the show's executive producer, confirmed Doakes' appearance in Dexter: Resurrection, he also revealed that Doakes would be a hallucination. Doakes has been deceased since Dexter Season 2. Resurrection occurs well over a decade later. Doakes and other fan favorites, such as the Trinity Killer (John Lithgow) and Miguel Prado (Jimmy Smits), will appear to Dexter as hallucinations. It appears that Dexter will have to confront very serious reminders of his history and the mistakes he committed in the original series. I think this is an excellent method to bring back a favorite figure without erasing his death.
Knowing that Doakes will be a hallucination rather than a memory in a flashback may indicate something bigger. Doakes could appear to Dexter when Angela (Julia Jones) and Batista reveal him as the Bay Harbor Butcher. For years, the world believed Doakes was the Bay Harbor Butcher. It would be entirely reasonable for Dexter to have to cope with how he framed the detective. He ruined Doakes' reputation. This would be Doakes' chance to finally receive justice and peace. I sincerely hope the program goes this way. It would be a tremendous method to address Dexter's previous deeds and their consequences.
Maria LaGuerta's Return To Dexter: Resurrection Will Bring Much Needed Closure

Why LaGuerta's Story Should Be Revisited Through Hallucinations In This New Chapter
If Dexter: Resurrection brings Doakes back after Dexter is revealed to be the Bay Harbor Butcher, it would be an ideal time to bring back another character as well. Maria LaGuerta, performed by Luna Lauren Velez was one of the few people who realized Dexter was a serial killer. She was also killed to protect his secret. Resurrection has the potential to bring both Doakes and Maria back. They could both find some closure. It wouldn't make sense to bring solely Doakes back. The Bay Harbor Butcher case was crucial to Maria's execution.
Another reason Maria should emerge as a hallucination in Dexter: Resurrection is her relationship with Doakes. Maria and Doakes were quite close. They once had a romantic relationship. She never thought Doakes was the Bay Harbor Butcher. Her desire to clear her friend's name ultimately led to her death. Deb, played by Jennifer Carpenter, killed her. If Doakes is given the opportunity to face Dexter about what he did, Maria deserves the same opportunity. Perhaps she deserves it even more. I believe fans would appreciate having her narrative resolved. It would make the series seem more comprehensive.
Bringing Luna Lauren Velez back to play Maria LaGuerta for the final time in Resurrection could even address a flaw in the original Dexter. Doakes' last appearance on Dexter was in season 7, during one of Dexter's memories. In that scene, he never got to interact with Maria. Resurrection has the potential to reunite Luna Lauren Velez and Erik King on television for the first time in nearly two decades. This does not even feel like fan service. It would nicely complement the show's themes. There are so many compelling reasons to bring Maria back in Resurrection that I'm almost certain it will happen.
Connecting The Dexter Universe: How Original Sin Prepares For Resurrection

Maria LaGuerta's role in the prequel series lends even more weight to her potential return.
Maria's reappearance to Dexter: Resurrection is also justified by her role in Dexter: Original Sin. Christina Milian played the younger Maria LaGuerta, who was a key figure in the prequel. She will continue to play an important role in Dexter: Original Sin season 2. The conclusion of Original Sin season 1 set Maria up for a more difficult connection with Harry and Dexter. It makes a lot of sense to keep the franchise's focus on Maria in Resurrection. The character was previously revived in Original Sin. Resurrection might use this to bring back Luna Lauren Velez.
Having Maria appear in Resurrection could be a way to commemorate her memory after her passing. It might even refer to the additions Original Sin has made to her story. The two programs are already extremely closely linked. Original Sin appears as Dexter's recollections while he battles for his life at the start of Resurrection. However, they could continue to grow on each other. Having Maria appear in Resurrection could be a way to commemorate her memory after her passing. It could also relate to some of the additions Original Sin has made to her story. I truly hope I am correct. We should see Maria LaGuerta in Dexter: Resurrection soon.
What Does the Future Hold for Dexter Morgan and His Expanding World?

Exploring the themes of justice and consequences over multiple Dexter series.
The Dexter franchise has grown significantly. It now has four separate shows, with a fifth on the way in 20 years. Each episode attempts to explore a different aspect of Dexter Morgan's convoluted life. Dexter, a blood spatter analyst with Miami Metro Police, was first presented in the original series. He led a double life as a serial killer, focusing solely on other killers who had avoided justice. The episode centered on his internal problems as he followed his "Dark Passenger" code.
With New Blood, we watched Dexter attempt to live a normal life in a new town, only to have his history catch up with him. Original Sin transports us back to his earliest days. It looks at how Harry helped shape his code. Now, Resurrection appears to be set to bring everything full circle. It forces Dexter to face the ghosts of his past. This includes anyone he has harmed directly or indirectly. The show is continually making us think about justice. It also makes us think about the ramifications. Can a monster really find peace? Can he ever undo what he's done? These are the questions that keep us engaged.
The idea of Doakes and LaGuerta returning as hallucinations is a pretty creative solution to address these issues. It's not simply about reintroducing popular characters. It is about forcing Dexter to confront his actions. He must confront the shame and lies that have dominated his life. This method feels more powerful than basic flashbacks. It turns his history into an active component of his current struggle. I'm excited to see how this turns out. I believe this could be one of Dexter's most emotionally packed seasons yet. It appears that the show is exploring new area while remaining committed to its primary concepts.
