If you are thinking about getting a PlayStation 5, or maybe you just want some new Call Of Duty content, you have a lot to consider right now. PlayStation is having its annual Days of Play sale. This means some pretty tempting console deals. But beyond that, Call of Duty is also rolling out its Season 4 for Black Ops 6. There is also a lot of talk about where the whole franchise is heading next year. I have to say, it is a lot to keep up with, even for someone who follows gaming closely.

The PlayStation Days of Play sale includes two PS5 Slim console deals that are worth a look. You can get a PS5 Slim with a disc drive and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 for $450. The PS5 Slim Digital Edition bundle is $400. This is a good price especially considering the disc version of the PS5 Slim usually sells for $500 on its own. So getting a game with it for less money is a decent deal. The sale runs until June 11, so you have some time to decide if you want to jump on this.

These bundles come with a voucher for a digital copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. You also get a white DualSense Controller and the needed cables. If you like your console standing up, you will have to buy the Vertical Stand separately for about $30. I always wonder why they do not just include that. If you go for the digital version, you save $50, but you will only be able to play games you download from the PlayStation Store. If you change your mind later, you can buy the disc drive separately for $80. It is good to have options, I guess.

Black Ops 6 Season 4 Brings New Content and Returns for Players

Exploring New Maps, Modes, and Battle Pass Rewards in the Latest Update

Season 4 of Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is here. It is bringing a ton of new stuff for everyone who plays COD. With the year for COD content winding down, Black Ops 6 is making its last big push before we all look toward this year’s next main game. There are new maps, new modes, and new operators. Season 4 is launching with plenty of content for every kind of player. Whether you love ranked play or just messing around, you will find something new.

Season 4 began on May 29 at 9:00 AM PT across all platforms. A new operator named Stitch will be available in the Season 4 Battle Pass. Stitch is back in the story working with Adler. I expect we will see new Stitch skins in store bundles later in the season. There are also three new Multiplayer maps making their debut. I do not think these will be added to the pro competitive scene, but they might get into Ranked Play after some testing. The new maps are called Exhibit, Incline, and Parisian. They all sound like interesting places to fight.

The update also brings a new game mode called Team Elimination. This mode sounds like a mix of Kill Confirmed and Control. Each round, teams get a certain number of lives. The goal is to be the last team with lives left. When players die, they drop a Dog Tag. Enemies can pick it up to confirm the kill, or teammates can grab it to stop the other team from getting the point. To win, you either eliminate the enemy team or have the most lives when the time runs out. This mode could be a bit slower, like Control. It might even become a future competitive mode, which would be cool to see.

Three new weapons are also coming in Season 4. Two will be unlocked through the Battle Pass, and one will be an in-season event reward. It is a common thing for Battle Pass weapons to be very powerful when they first launch. So you can expect these new weapons to be popular in both Multiplayer and Warzone. The Essex Model 07, a sniper rifle, could even be a strong long-range option in the World Series of Warzone. Beyond that, more rewards are available in Season 4 Ranked Play for both Multiplayer and Warzone. And Ranked Resurgence is coming back, giving players another competitive option.

What Call of Duty Needs to Improve Moving Forward, From Gameplay to Cosmetics

Concerns About Anti-Cheat, Monetization, and the Overall Direction of the Franchise

While new content is always good, Call of Duty has some problems that I think really need fixing. One big one is the constant focus on weed-themed items. Seriously, it is everywhere. I am not against fun cosmetic bundles. I am usually the first person in line to get a flashy unicorn skin. But the sheer amount of drug-themed content is a bit much. The game has had ways to limit what players see in the past, like PlayStation-exclusive skins appearing as generic military skins to non-PlayStation players. There is no reason they cannot offer a toggle to turn off this content.

Another issue that has come up is the use of AI-generated assets. It seems Activision is using AI for some of the game's cosmetic items like stickers and emblems. Players are not happy about this. What is worse is that these AI-made items are being sold to players in game bundles. They are also given as rewards for in-game events, some of which cost extra money to fully get. Call of Duty is a huge franchise that makes billions. I believe they can afford to pay human artists to create these things. This use of AI raises questions about copyright and environmental impact too.

The storytelling in Black Ops 6 feels like it is trying to tie everything together. It has become very complex. It almost feels like you need a flow chart to understand what is happening. While I appreciate the return of features like classic prestige, I am ready for some new ideas. The post-launch support started strong with new characters. But by Season 3, the developers went back to Frank Woods and Russell Adler. They also brought back other characters who are supposed to be dead in the story but are playable in Warzone. I would like to see COD try out some genuinely new characters, fresh emblems, and maybe even completely new stories.

There is also a big ongoing problem with how weapons are balanced between Multiplayer and Warzone. Multiplayer is fast-paced, with close-quarters combat. Warzone often has players fighting at longer ranges. This means weapons should work differently in each mode. But the developers have tried to make gunplay consistent across both. This has led to slower gameplay in Multiplayer and strange weapon metas in Warzone. For example, SMGs can sometimes snipe players across the map in just a few shots. This makes loadouts feel less about skill and more about which weapon got a "nerf" or "buff" in the latest update. I think separating Multiplayer and Warzone weapon balancing would really help both modes.

Finally, the anti-cheat system, RICOCHET, has been a rollercoaster. It had a good period, with the team being open about their efforts to stop cheaters. But in the Black Ops 6 era, it has been less successful. The link between Warzone and Black Ops 6 was a mess in Season 1. Players went weeks without any action against cheaters. Activision even gave console players the choice to turn off cross-play because most cheaters are on PC. This helps some, but it does not solve the overall problem. Many PC players are not cheating and they do not want to be stuck with cheaters either. For COD 2025 to truly work, the anti-cheat needs to be spot on from day one. I hope they make this a top priority.
